Help Bring the Historic Art Deco Auditorium Back to Life

For more than 120 years, the Walworth County Historical Society has preserved the stories, places, and people that shaped our community. Today, we invite you to become part of that history.

In 2021, WCHS purchased the historic History Center building from the City of Elkhorn — securing an important landmark for future generations. At its heart is a hidden treasure: a 1930s Art Deco auditorium that once served as a vibrant gathering place for the community.

Time, however, has taken its toll.

The second-floor auditorium now requires significant restoration to remain usable and safe. Without action, this remarkable space risks continued deterioration. With community support, it can once again become one of Walworth County’s most inspiring public spaces.

The Plan

Project consultant Driftless Pathways has prepared a preliminary July 2025 renovation estimate of $584,000, including:

• Restoration of historic architectural features
• New HVAC systems for comfort and preservation
• Modern audio-visual technology
• Renovated ceiling, walls, and flooring
• Accessibility, safety, and code improvements

To unlock matching State grant funding, WCHS must raise $292,000 locally through contributions from citizens, businesses, and charitable trusts throughout Walworth County.

Every dollar given helps multiply the impact through grant matching funds.
