Blooming Prairie School House and Sharon Town Hall

Blooming Prairie School District, No. 2, was established September 21, 1840. The 1889 Blooming Prairie School was moved to the Walworth County Fairgrounds in 1959, and since that time, classes have been offered at the school to give children an idea of what school was like many years ago.
As part of its “Living History Program” the Society sponsors “1880 School Days.” The programs are held in the Blooming Prairie School House. Former teachers conduct sessions throughout the year: Spring, during the County Fair, and in the fall. Children are taught in the morning and tour the Webster Museum in the afternoon. At the end of the session, students receive an 1875 style diploma. The schoolhouse will be open during the Walworth County Fair and other special events.
Although the exact date of construction is unknown, the Sharon Town Hall is believed to have been built around 1890. The structure was moved to the Walworth County Fairgrounds in 1967 as “a memorial to the beginning of grassroots government in Wisconsin” (The Janesville Daily Gazette, Aug, 1967)
The Sharon Town Hall is currently under restoration by the WCHS, but is slated to be open to the during the Walworth County Fair and other special events.
